The United States Women’s National Team is officially on its way to Houston for the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.
The U.S. will play at BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (TICKETS) against the second place finisher in Group B, likely either Guyana or Trinidad and Tobago. Canada currently leads Group B and would play in the first match on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Costa Rica. The winners of each semifinal match earn a spot at the 2016 Olympic tournament in Rio de Janeiro, and advance to the championship final on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Americans went through group play undefeated, with a 5-0 win over Costa Rica, 1-0 win against Mexico, and a 10-0 win over Puerto Rico. Houston Dash midfielder Carli Lloyd started all three matches and scored three goals, while fellow Dash midfielder Morgan Brian made two starts and tallied an assist in the closing rout against Puerto Rico.
Canada has also breezed through the group stage so far, having secured a spot in the semifinal with a game to go Tuesday night thanks to 5-0 and 6-0 results against Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, respectively. The Canadians face Guatemala at BBVA Compass Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m. with first place in Group A effectively wrapped up. Canada has six points to Guyana and Trinidad’s three, and has an insurmountable lead in the goal difference tiebreaker on both teams (+11 to -5 and -6).
