Honduras and Australia played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the intercontinental playoff on Friday afternoon in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to determine who books a spot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Houston Dynamo forward Romell Quioto played the full 90 minutes for Honduras, while midfielder Boniek GarcĂa was an unused substitute and forward Alberth Elis was suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Elis will be eligible for the second leg on Wednesday, November 15 in Australia (3 a.m. CT | beIN Sports, WatchESPN).
The away goals tiebreaker is in effect for the playoff, meaning that a scoring draw (1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc.) would be enough for Honduras to secure their World Cup spot. A win by either team would also send the respective squad through, while another scoreless draw would send the match to extra time and penalties, if needed.
