Houston Dynamo defender Corey Ashe has been added to the U.S. men’s national team roster by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann for its game against Belgium on May 29 in Cleveland, Ohio., it was announced today.
Ashe, 27, is the third Dynamo player named to the national team for upcoming games. He will join midfielder Brad Davis at the national team camp in Cleveland on May 27 following Houston’s game at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.
Following the friendly against Belgium at FirstEnergy Stadium, Ashe will return to the Dynamo ahead of their match at the Columbus Crew on June 1.
Ashe will join the senior national team for the first time after gaining experience in the youth levels of the U.S. national team. The defender was part of the U-23 national team at the Toulon Tournament in 2008 and appeared in all three games. Ashe also represented the U.S. at the FIFA U-17 World Championships in 2003.
Drafted by the Dynamo out of the University of North Carolina in 2007, Ashe has become a fixture at left back, starting 30 games in each of the last two seasons and all 12 games this year. The Virginia Beach, VA native is second on Houston’s all-time games played list in all competitions (220 games) and regular season games (172 games). Ashe helped the Dynamo win the 2007 MLS Cup and was named to the MLS All-Star team in 2011.
