Houston Dynamo FC will kick off the 2022 season at home on Sunday, February 27 against Real Salt Lake at 6 p.m. CT with Opening Day presented by PNC Bank, the Club and Major League Soccer announced today.
The league also announced that Houston will travel to the Midwest in Week 2 for a nationally-televised tilt against longtime rivals Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, March 5. Kickoff for that match is set for 2:30 p.m. CT. The full schedule for the 2022 Dynamo season is expected to be released later this year.

This is the 17th season for the Dynamo in Major League Soccer and the first full season under the stewardship of new majority owner Ted Segal. Since Segal assumed control of the Club in June, he has ushered in a number of changes on and off the pitch, most notably the hiring of Dynamo legend Pat Onstad as General Manager earlier this month.
Onstad, who was introduced as General Manager on Nov. 1, has indicated an intention for the Dynamo to play “a proactive, high-energy” style of soccer that reflects Houston’s status as the Energy Capital of the World. In less than three full weeks on the job, he has already begun reshaping the Dynamo roster for next season and is in the process of identifying a new head coach to lead the team.
The Dynamo have gone 8-2-6 on Opening Day and 9-2-5 in home openers. They are 7-1-2 in home openers at PNC Stadium since the building opened in 2012. Houston kicked off the 2021 MLS season with a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes in April.
The Dynamo have started the season against Real Salt Lake once before, with the two sides playing to a 1-1 draw on March 2, 2019 in Houston. The all-time series between Houston and RSL is tied at 12 wins apiece to go with nine draws. In 2021, the teams played three times with two matches ending in draws and RSL winning the season series with a 2-1 win on August 18.
