HOUSTON (Oct. 31, 2026) – In their final road match of the regular season, Houston Dynamo FC wrap a two-match Pacific Northwest road trip at the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Nov. 1. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. CT at Providence Park, and fans can watch the action live on Apple TV, FS1 and Fox Deportes.
The Dynamo enter Sunday's matchup following an crucial 1-0 road victory versus Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday night, a result that moved Houston into the top four in the Western Conference table. The team is currently even with St. Louis CITY SC in third and just three points out of second place, with only two regular season matches remaining. Notably, with one more win this season, Houston can tie its single-season points record (54) set in 2024.
Houston have already earned their place in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs and will look to continue their push up the standings. The Dynamo have remained above the playoff line since May and have avoided defeat in 15 of 18 matches since returning from the World Cup Break. Sunday's fixture in Portland marks the second meeting between the Dynamo and Timbers this season. The two sides last met in March, when Houston earned a thrilling, last minute 3-2 victory over Portland at ShellEnergy Stadium behind three second half goals. Attacker Mateusz Bogusz scored the match winner in the 15th minute of second half stoppage time, marking the second-latest goal in MLS history. Attacker Guilhermeand defender Felipe Andrade also found the back of the net for Houston. Notably, Bogusz and Guilherme's performance earned them MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors for Matchday 4.
One technical staff note for this road match is that head coach Ben Olsen will be back in the touchline after serving a one-match red card suspension.
During Houston's road win at Seattle on Wednesday, defender Lucas Halter scored his first Dynamo goal in the 26th minute with a header off a corner kick delivery from Bogusz. The Brazilian defender, alongside goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, helped lead the Dynamo to their 13th clean sheet of the season, tying the Club's single-season record (2007 and 2023). The result also marked Bond's 12th clean sheet of the MLS campaign, tying Tally Hall (2012) and Steve Clark’s (2023) single-season Club records. Both Bond and Halter earned MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors for Matchday 33.
From an individual perspective, Guilherme has contributed to 26 of Houston's 42 league goals this season (61.9%), one of the highest rates in MLS so far, and recently became just the second player in Dynamo historyto record 10 goals and 10 assists in the same season (Alberth Elis, 11 goals and 10 assists in 2018). He also became the second Brazilian player in MLS history to record at least 25 goal contributions in their debut season (Gabriel Pec, 2024). Additionally, he has recorded at least a goal and one assist in seven MLS matches this season.
Additionally, Bond remains among the league's top three in clean sheets this season. Earlier this season, he helped Houston tie a league-record with a five-match shutout victory streak and held opponents scoreless for an impressive 485 minutes, the second-longest run over the last decade for the Dynamo.
Portland enters Sunday's fixture sitting 11th in the Western Conference as they fight to secure a spot in this year's postseason. The Timbers hold an 11-14-7 (W-L-D) record with 40 points and finished October with a 2-1-2 (W-L-D) record. They most recently won back-to-back matches, defeating Charlotte FC 3-2 (Oct. 24) and St. Louis 3-2 (Oct. 28). Kristoffer Velde leads the team's attack with 10 goals and 10 assists.
Last week, the Dynamo also announced a contract extension for Olsen through the 2027-28 season. Under his leadership, the Club has lifted 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, qualified for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup for the first time since 2019, reached the 2023 Western Conference Final, set a Club single-season points record in 2024, while securing a second consecutive MLS Cup Playoffs berth. The American is one of three active MLS head coaches to lead a team to the playoffs eight or more times and ranks second in Club history for the most playoff appearances. Olsen sits seventh all-time amongst MLS head coaches with 164 regular season wins, while his 52 regular season wins with the Dynamo is the second-most in Club history. Additionally, Olsen has been a key contributor in Houston’s rise as one of the most productive player development clubs in MLS, advancing the careers of players like midfielder Matthew Arana, Andrade, Micael dos Santos, Jack McGlynn, Brooklyn Raines and defender Agustin Resch.
The Dynamo return home for a high-powered Decision Day matchup on Saturday, Nov. 7, hosting St. Louis CITY SC in a top-four Western Conference clash.
