Lifelong Houstonian Michael Stewart became a fan of Houston Dynamo FC four years ago after a close friend of his introduced him to the city’s MLS team. That simple introduction blossomed into passionate support for a club he now loves.
“I enjoy attending matches at Shell Energy Stadium because everyone is there for the same reason,” Stewart, whose favorite part of gameday is enjoying the amenities of the Lexus Club, said. “That reason is to enjoy the game, watch our beloved Dynamo win, win, win.
“Despite his injury earlier this season, defender Teenage Hadebe is my favorite current Dynamo player because he consistently played hard for his new team,” he added.
With the Dynamo and Dash hosting respective Pride Nights this weekend, Stewart said he believes the Club creates an inclusive environment for all fans. He also hopes sports organizations around the world utilize Pride-themed activations such as playing an entire match in an affiliated Pride jersey, as well as having visibility in the LGBTQ+ community with support and sponsorship.
“Celebrating Pride represents taking back the power to own my full being unashamedly, without concern for others’ opinions or judgements,” Stewart said. “It’s a time when I can celebrate those who have gone before me, who fought for me to have the rights to exist, be married and have access to vital healthcare needs as a same gender loving man.”
