Three Houston Dynamo players have been called in by the Honduras National Team ahead of next week’s round of FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches, the National Autonomous Federation of Football of Honduras (FENAFUTH) announced earlier today.
Forwards Alberth Elis and Romell Quioto, as well as midfielder Boniek GarcĂa, will join Los Catrachos following the Dynamo game on Saturday night. Houston travels to Portland for its first away game of the season this weekend to face the Portland Timbers at 9:30 p.m. CST. That game will be televised live on KUBE TV Ch. 57, with the pregame show starting at 9:00 p.m.
Honduras will face the United States on Friday, March 24 in San Jose, California, and will host Costa Rica on Tuesday, March 28 at Estadio Francisco Morazán in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Los Catrachos are looking to qualify for their third consecutive World Cup, a feat which has never been done in Honduran soccer history.
GarcĂa ranks in Honduran National Team history with 117 career caps and has three goals for the national team. Quioto has appeared in 27 matches for his country and has four goals, three of which have come in 2018 World Cup Qualifying play. At age 21, Elis has already represented his country 15 times and has scored three goals, the last of which came in a 2-2 World Cup Qualifying draw with arch-rivals El Salvador on March 25, 2016.
Through two games this season, Quioto is tied for the Dynamo team lead with two goals, while Elis has one – the game-winning goal in last Saturday’s 3-1 win over Columbus Crew SC. GarcĂa led the Dynamo in assists last season with a career-high nine.
