The Houston Dynamo and Dynamo Charities, presented by the Halliburton Charitable Foundation, announced today that the Brian Ching Testimonial Match, presented by BBVA Compass, raised a total of $130,000 for The House that Ching Built and Houston Habitat for Humanity.
Funds were raised through a variety of events celebrating the career of the retired Dynamo forward and current Houston Dash Managing Director, culminating with the testimonial match held on December 13, 2013. The house, which is currently under construction, will benefit the Garcia-Andrade family of Houston’s North East side. Additional funds for the project were secured through contributions from public and private donors.
“It all started with our ownership group and BBVA Compass, and I can’t thank them enough for setting such an amazing example,” said Ching. “I’m always overwhelmed by the generosity of our fans. I want to thank all volunteers who donated their time to put together such an amazing event. I especially want to thank my mother and my aunts who made over 4,000 leis to help raise funds for this project. They were a huge success. For all those who donated their time and money, I would just like to say mahalo.”
“This is the most successful fundraising initiative in Dynamo Charities history,” said Dynamo Charities and Dynamo President Chris Canetti. “This effort was made possible by the great excitement around the Brian Ching testimonial match and the support of the community. These funds will be put to great use thanks to Brian Ching’s leadership.”
The Garcia-Andrade family was selected by Houston Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent and affordable place to live.
