In honor of his No. 20 jersey, Cameron and Dynamo Charities have set an initial goal of raising $20,000 for LLS, with Cameron participating in the Man of the Year campaign. Cameron’s passion for the campaign stems from his friendship with former youth soccer teammate Tim DaPonte, who was diagnosed with stage-two Hodgkins Lymphoma in January 2011.
“Every day, I wake up and realize how fortunate I am to make a living by playing the sport I love,” Cameron said. “Tim, and his battle with lymphoma, has made me realize that anyone can be stricken with cancer at any time. I am fortunate that my career affords me the opportunity to partner with Dynamo Charities and raise money to find a cure so no other family has to struggle with leukemia or lymphoma.”
Dynamo Charities and the Dynamo’s majority owner AEG have already pledged their support toward Cameron’s campaign.
Former Dynamo midfielder Danny Cruz was named LLS Man of the Year in 2011 and former Dynamo senior vice president Rocky Harris was named LLS Man of the Year in 2010. Fans can donate directly to Cameron’s campaign by going to HoustonDynamo.com/20for20.
Cameron and the Dynamo will also host two upcoming events with proceeds benefitting LLS. The first will be a celebrity pour that will take place on April 18 at Bar Munich. The second event will be a FIFA Street video game tournament on Thursday, April 26 at the Microsoft Store at The Galleria Mall. Details for both events can be found at Cameron’s 20 for 20 campaign page.
Fans can also participate by purchasing a special ticket package to the Dynamo’s May 15 game against the Portland Timbers, receiving two tickets and a two 20 for 20 T-shirts for only $49.99. Those who purchase the ticket package will also have a chance to win a pair of autographed cleats from Cameron. If season ticket holders wish to purchase the 20 for 20 ticket package, they are advised to call their customer service representative.
