With the third round of CONCACAF qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in the books, three Dynamo players advanced to the Hexagonal round with wins Tuesday night.
Entering last night's qualifiers, Jamaica needed to defeat Antigua and Barbuda, have the United States defeat Guatemala and make up a three-goal differential on Guatemala to advance to the next round. Dynamo center back Jermaine Taylor started and played 90 minutes and Je-Vaughn Watson came on as a late-game sub, as the Reggae Boyz defeated Antigua and Barbuda 4-1 on the road. With a 3-1 U.S. win over Guatemala, Jamaica finished second in Group A and advanced to the final round of qualifying.
In Group C, Andre Hainault and his Canadian squad needed a win or a draw in Honduras to advance to the Hex. Unfortunately for the Canucks, Boniek Garcia's Honduran squad was too much for the visitors, as Los Catrachos scored early and often en route to an 8-1 win at Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano. Although Garcia did not register on the scoresheet, he had a hand in two goals, playing a through-ball that set up Jerry Bengtson's goal in the 16th minute, and sending in a long ball that set up Carlo Costly's goal in the 30 minute.
The Hex, which consists of the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama, will run from early February 2013 to mid-October 2013. Each team in the group will play each other team home and away, with the top three teams advancing to the World Cup and the fourth place team playing the Oceania winner in a one-game playoff.
