Notably, Dynamo 2 captain and midfielder Diego Gonzalez was named the MLS NEXT Pro of the Month for March after an attacking clinic that saw the 22-year-old contribute to four goals in four matches (two goals and two assists) to start the season. The midfielder is also tied for first in the league with 15 key passes and tied for second with two assists.
Dynamo Dos are coming off a 3-1 home loss to Minnesota United FC 2 last weekend. Gonzalez was Houston’s lone goal scorer that evening, notching his second goal of the season from the penalty spot following a foul in the box in second half stoppage time. Despite the result, the match did see young midfielder Lionel Gitau earn his first start for Dynamo 2 after making his professional debut on March 26 versus Ventura County FC.
Forward Andy Batioja and goalkeeper Pedro Cruz were called up to the first team on short-term loans for last Sunday’s road match versus the Portland Timbers. Batioaja made his MLS debut with the first team on Sunday, and 19-year-old is a regular member of the U-20 Colombian National Team. The call ups marked Batioja’s second of the season and Cruz’s first.
Dynamo Dos currently sit second in the Western Conference standings with six points and a 2-2-0 (WLD) record. Houston leads the league with the most goals (eight) this season, including goals from four Dynamo Academy players.
LAFC2 heads into this weekend’s match following a 2-1 road loss versus USL League One side AV Alta FC in the Second Round of the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. DeCarlo Guerra was the team’s lone scorer, finding the back of the net in the 64th minute. In regular season action, LAFC2 wrapped up March with a 1-0-1 (WLD) record. They fell 4-2 in penalties versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 after playing to a 3-3 draw in regulation during their home opener, while earning a 3-1 home victory over Ventura County in their second match of the season. LAFC2 sit sixth in the Western Conference with four points.
Dos holds the upper hand in the all-time series against Los Angeles, with a 2-1-1 (WLD) record in regular season play. The two sides matched up twice in 2024, with Houston falling 3-2 to LAFC2 in Southern California in March, before securing a 2-1 home victory in July behind a brace from forward Gabe Segal.
