Houston Dynamo 2 return to SaberCats Stadium following a three-game road trip to the Pacific Northwest and America’s heartland. The team earned two points from the trip and look to secure three points at home on Sunday, June 23 when they host Colorado Rapids 2 at 7 p.m. CT.
Dynamo 2 closed the road trip with a 1-0 loss to St. Louis CITY 2 at CITYPARK. Ryan Becher capitalized on a deflection inside the box for the lone goal of the match. This was the first time Dynamo 2 was held scoreless since April 14, a stretch of seven games that includes a victory over St. Louis at home on May 22.
Dynamo Academy player Tate Lampman made his first start of the season in St. Louis after recovery from a leg injury suffered earlier this year. Sunday’s match was the second appearance of the season for the future Georgetown Hoya. The defender led the team with three clearances and finished with two interceptions.
Dynamo Dos midfielder Sebastian Rodriguez led the team with three chances created against St. Louis. Rodriguez was one of eight Dynamo Academy players or alums to take the field for Dynamo 2 in St. Louis.
Sunday’s match is the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The second meeting is scheduled for Aug. 3 in Colorado. The Rapids will visit SaberCats Stadium for the third and final meeting of the regular season on Sept. 22.
The series was split in 2023 with each team winning on the road. The all-time series is also tied with a 2-2-1 (WLD) record for both squads.
Colorado enter Sunday’s game at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 2-8-3 (WLD) record. They are winless in their last four matches but have secured three points from their last two outings, a 1-1 draw with Austin on the road and a 2-2 draw at home with Ventura County FC.
Dynamo 2 close the month on the road when they travel to Minnesota to start a two-game road trip. Dynamo Dos return to SaberCats Stadium on July 11 to host Austin FC.
