HOUSTON (Oct. 16, 2024) – Houston Dynamo 2 captain and midfielder Diego Gonzalez was named to the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Best XI, the league announced today.
The Dynamo Academy product delivered a second breakout campaign, finishing the regular season with six goals and 10 assists, while tying for the most assists and key passes (78) in league play.
Most recently, Gonzalez played a pivotal role in the team’s 3-1 victory over Vancouver on Decision Day, recording a goal and an assist, and leading Dynamo 2 to their third consecutive postseason.
The 21-year-old was named MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Month for July after contributing seven goals in four matches, including two assists in Houston’s 2-0 victory over Austin FC II on July 11 and a three-assists performance in a 4-0 win over North Texas SC on July 21.
Gonzalez has now tallied 17 goals and 16 assists over the last two regular seasons with Dynamo Dos.
Dynamo 2 travels to Northern California to face The Town FC on Sunday, Oct. 20 in the MLS NEXT Pro Conference Quarterfinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT at Saint Mary’s College, and fans can watch the match on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
