Houston Dynamo 2 signed defender Ify Udanoh to a multi-year MLS NEXT Pro contract, the team announced today.
“Ify’s size, strength, and physicality along with his composure on the ball fit the way we want to play,” Dynamo assistant general manager, Nick Kowba said. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a young domestic player that has European experience. He understands the professional environment we can provide and is eager to continue his development with us.”
The 19-year-old spent the last two seasons within the Stoke City FC youth academy. While with Stoke City, Udanoh competed in the U-18 English Premier League where he appeared in 15 matches during the 2021-2022 season.
Udanoh joined the Nigerian youth national team ranks for training camps beginning in 2020. The American-born player can represent the United States, Germany and Nigeria at the senior international level.
Udanoh and Houston Dynamo 2 are set to kick off the 2023 MLS Next Pro season on the road on March 24 against Austin FC II. The match will be available on MLS Season Pass. Dynamo 2 returns to AVEVA Stadium for the first time on April 2 against Colorado Rapids 2.
