HOUSTON (Aug. 16, 2024) – Houston Dynamo 2 hits the road on Saturday, Aug. 17 to face off against North Texas SC at Choctaw Stadium. This marks the third meeting between the sides following a 4-0 home victory on July 21 and a 2-2 draw in Arlington on April 28.

Dynamo 2 look to build momentum following the 1-1 draw and a triumph in the penalty kick shootout against St. Louis City II this past Sunday. Homegrown goalkeeper Xavier Valdez rose to the occasion, making a key save during the shootout before defender Tate Schmitt secured the victory with the fourth and final penalty kick of the night. Gabriel Segal found the back of the net in regulation with a free kick from nearly 40 yards out. The striker currently leads the team with six goals and has scored five of them in his last four matches for Houston.

Segal finished with a brace in Dynamo 2’s second meeting against North Texas earlier this season, which marked his first two-goal performance with Houston before bagging another brace the following week in the team’s 2-1 home victory against LAFC 2.

Academy product and team captain Diego Gonzalez also put on a clinic during the last meeting with North Texas SC, assisting three of the four goals scored by Dynamo 2. The midfielder currently leads Dynamo 2 and MLS NEXT Pro with eight assists and 59 key passes.

North Texas will host Saturday’s fixture at the top of the Western Conference standings with 43 points and a record of 11-3-6 (WLD). They defeated Sporting KC II in their most recent matchup with goals from Anthony Ramirez and Pedro Fonseca, who were both assisted by Herbert Endeley. Fonseca enters the match with three goals scored in his last four games.

Houston has the upper hand in the all-time series against the FC Dallas affiliate, with five victories and two draws out of their eight meetings in regular season play. In 2023, the series was split with Dynamo 2 winning at home and earning a point on the road against North Texas.

Dynamo 2 return to SaberCats Stadium for a two-game homestand against Minnesota United FC 2, with the first match on Wednesday, Aug. 21 and the last match on Sunday, Aug. 25, both are scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. CT.
