HOUSTON (Feb. 21, 2024) - Houston Dynamo 2 and forward Ifunanyachi Achara have agreed to a one-year contract, the team announced today.
Achara joined Houston Dynamo FC for the 2023 MLS regular season after being selected in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft in Nov. 2022. The forward suffered a season-ending injury last spring and missed the 2023 campaign.
“Achara brings valuable experience and leadership to the group,” Dynamo Assistant General Manager Nick Kowbasaid. “He is still navigating his return to the field and our staff is dedicated to ensuring he has the support and resources to succeed this year.”
The forward made 29 appearances for Toronto FC from 2021-2022 and made his professional debut in the 2020 home opener against New York City FC, scoring the game-winning goal.
Achara played four seasons at Georgetown University and captained the Hoyas to the 2019 NCAA Division I title, when the team finished the season with an overall record of 20-1-3. He finished with 20 goals and seven assists in 47 appearances for the Hoyas.
